Bail denied for four in spurious drugs case

A sessions court here on Wednesday declined to grant bail to four persons arrested in the spurious drugs case.

Dismissing the petitions of V. Manickam, Sunita Rani, Jagadambal and Rajesh, Principal Sessions Judge P. Devadoss said offences alleged against them were grave.

N.M. Sathammai, wife of V. Meenakshisundaram, who surrendered in connection with the case, has moved the Madras High Court seeking a direction forbearing the Kodungaiyur police here from proceeding any further with respect to the complaint lodged by the Drug Inspector, Perambur range of the Drug Control Department.

She submitted that the police lacked jurisdiction and source of power in terms of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
