Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Monday arrested the Crime Writer in the rank of a Head Constable in the MGR Nagar police station on charges of taking bribe from a cheating case suspect who was released on conditional bail.

According to police sources, A. Panchasheelan (50) of Old Mambalam was arrested in connection with a cheating case and remanded to judicial custody. He was released on conditional bail on September 2 with a direction to sign in a register at the MGR Nagar police station every Monday and Friday.

In his complaint with the DVAC authorities, Panchasheelan said that the Head Constable S. Thothan (53) was demanding a bribe on every appearance for giving the register to sign. A special team led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police N. Rajendran has been formed to investigate the case.

The team laid a trap and arrested Thothan in the presence of official witnesses soon after he took Rs. 200 as bribe from the complainant on Monday evening. The accused was produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody, Mr. Rajendran said.
