64 kg of shark fins seized at airport

Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officers of the Customs have seized 64 kg of shark fins worth ₹32 lakh at the departure terminal of the Chennai airport from two passengers bound for Singapore.

On Tuesday night, AIU officers intercepted the two passengers. They were carrying three cartons each. On opening the six cartons, 10 small gunny bags were found, containing a total of 64 kg of shark fins.

The seized shark fins were examined by the Wild Life Crime Control Bureau officials. The shark fins were seized under the provisions of the Customs Act read with Foreign Trade (D&R) Act.
