Three years after the 1972 classic comedy Kasethan Kadavulada was brought to stage by actor Y.Gee. Mahendra, the play is all set for its 100th show next month.

“This improved version is a clinical remix and will appeal to everyone. We have blended current topics to make it interesting. It has been so well received and successful that we plan to take it to Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia,” Mr. Mahendra said.

He recollects how he yearned to play the role of actor and comedian Thengai Srinivasan, who effortlessly essayed the role of a fake saint. “I saw it when I was in college and wanted to bring it back since it is an amazing film,” he says.

Other classic films

Mr. Mahendra has also brought on stage a few other classic films like Vietnam Veedu and Paritchaikku Neramacchu . “I would love to do Galatta Kalyanam as well,” he said. He said he plans to celebrate his father YGP’s birth centenary in September with performances from people whom he admired, including singers K.J. Yesudas and S.P. Balasubrahmanyam and dancer Padma Subrahmanyam.

Show on June 11

The 100th show of Kasethan Kadavulada will be staged at Mylapore Fine Arts on June 11 at 10.45 a.m.
