Citizens who have not yet registered as voters still have two days’ time to do so. They can still enrol as voters till Sunday.
According to Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials who are monitoring the enrolment, there has been good response to the drive.
On an average, 12,000 people are registering as voters everyday across the city.
The voter enrolments are being taken up across the city at the various BangaloreOne centres, jurisdictional offices of the BBMP’s Revenue Officers and ward offices.
The officials said that they were expecting a large number of enrolments on Sunday.
“Last Sunday, when the special drive was held, around 80,000 people registered. With this Sunday being the last day to enrol, we are expecting more enrolments.”
K.R. Niranjan, Special Commissioner (Elections), told The Hindu that after the enrolment drive, focus would be on encouraging voters to exercise their franchise.
“We are working towards ensuring a voter turnout of 75 per cent this time around. During the Assembly elections held last year, the voter turnout was around 58 per cent,” he said.
Various activities under the SVEEP campaign would be taken up and an action plan for the same was being readied.
