A party on the weekend at an upscale Japanese restaurant in UB City in central Bengaluru allegedly devolved into an ugly brawl after several patrons — most of who were allegedly inebriated — started quarrelling and assaulting each other with beer bottles.
At the same time, a separate fight was taking place in the ladies’ washroom between a woman and two patrons. The woman later approached the police to file a complaint alleging assult in which she sustained injuries to her face.
The incidents took place on Sunday at Shiro, said the police. When patrons started fighting, staff called the Cubbon Park police who rushed to the spot. They found four groups fighting with each other in two separate instances at the same time. The police have registered three FIRs and arrested nine people. “We are yet to arrest the people who fought at the women’s washroom,” said the police.
Archith Narayan, 34, a resident of Malleswaram, in his complaint to the police stated that he along with his friends were dining at the restaurant while another group at the next table was celebrating a birthday. All of a sudden, a few of them started abusing Narayan’s friends.
When Narayan and his friends asked why they were abusing them, some of them allegedly approached them armed with beer bottles. Narayan claimed that three of his friends — Arvind, Kshitij, and Ajay — sustained injuries, the complaint states.
The police are yet to verify his statement. “Initial inquiries revealed that the group that was celebrating a birthday was creating a nuisance. When Narayan’s friends objected, it led to a heated argument,” said a police officer.
The police received a counter complaint from Darshan, a member from the group that was celebrating a birthday. They have arrested nine people from both the groups who were involved in the alleged brawl.
Woman unconscious
At the same time, Devayani, a 25-year-old patron who had come with her friend to Shiro’s for dinner, stepped into the women’s washroom and found a woman lying unconscious. She immediately called out for help. “In her statement, she said that a man and a woman claiming to be friends of the unconscious woman entered the washroom. They presumed that Devayani had assaulted their friend. They slapped her and punched her on the face,” said the police.
She sustained a black eye and approached the Cubbon Park police, and filed a complaint.
“We have registered an FIR, and are yet to make any arrest in this case,” said a senior police officer.
The restaurant’s management was unavailable for a comment on the incidents.
