The Kempegowda Bus Station at Majestic here was overrun by buffaloes on Sunday following a demonstration led by Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha president Vatal Nagaraj.
Mr. Nagaraj arranged for the buffaloes to be laden with empty plastic pots and took them on a procession inside the bus stand which connects every major area in the city.
Each plastic pot had the name of a district written on it.
“The empty pots symbolised the water crisis in the districts and the buffaloes represented the elected representatives of these districts,” Mr. Nagaraj said.
Explaining the reason for choosing the bus stand as the venue for his protest, he said,
“At any time of the day, one can find people from all over the State here. The protest was aimed at awakening them.”
Addressing reporters, he said that despite the looming water crisis, the State government has not come up with a plan to tackle the shortage.
“In Kolar and Chamrajnagar districts, people do not find water even after digging for 2,500 feet,” he said. Seeking to bring pressure on the government to act, he said that the existing water resources such as rivers and lakes are not being utilised optimally.
