Two-day conference on cybersecurity from Sept. 29

The terror attack that brought down the twin towers in the United States of America, popularly known as 9/11, is behind us. Now, experts are gearing up to face a possible scenario of ‘Cyber 9/11’.

Cyber and security experts from across the world are congregating in the city for a two-day conclave ‘Cyber 360’ that aims to build a discourse on cybersecurity with a holistic approach that goes beyond network and data breach threats. The conclave is organised by Synergia Group, a city-based independent think tank working in the security sector for years now.

Those attending the conclave include Carl Bildt, former Prime Minister of Sweden and the chair of the Global Commission on Internet Governance; Michael Chertoff, former secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; and former chiefs of India’s external intelligence agency RAW Vikram Sood and Hormis Tharakan.

Tobby Simon, founder and president of Synergia Group, said cybersecurity had stopped being a data threat and had today turned into a strategic issue that nation States should look into.

“Closer home, in March 2015, details of 50,000 army personnel, including the chief of army staff, was believed to have been compromised due to hacking of the website of office of principal Controller of Defence Accounts. Such targeted attacks continue to grow in number and severity,” he said.

Mr. Simon said cybersecurity was still seen through a narrow lens of data breach, which the conclave aims to address.

The conclave will be held from September 29 at Taj West End Hotel on Race Course Road.
