Two pillion riders killed in separate incidents

Two pillion riders were killed in separate road accidents in Mico Layout and Banaswadi of Bengaluru on Wednesday.

According to Mico Layout police the deceased has been identified as Sandeep (24), a resident of Venkatapura. Sandeep’s colleague Ravi, who sustained minor injuries, was riding the bike. Both are employees of a mobilephone service company. On Wednesday around 10.45 a.m. when they were on the way to office and reached 5th Cross of BTM Layout, Ravi lost control over the motorcycle and hit the median. The motorcycle was dragged for a few metres and hit another two-wheeler coming from the opposite direction.

Sandeep, who sustained severe head injuries, died on-the-spot while Ravi suffered from bruises and is being treated in a hospital.

Family of four

In another incident, a two-wheeler carrying a family of four was hit on the rear by a cement-mixer lorry on Outer Ring Road near Nagawara, resulting in the pillion rider being run-over by the lorry.

The police said that Srinivas, an employee in a dairy farm and a resident of Cox Town was going to Chikkaballapur to attend a festival with his wife Anila (27) and their children Janardhan (10) and Chandana (8).

On Wednesday around 12.30 p.m., when they were in the Outer Ring Road, a speeding cement-mixer lorry hit their bike. All the four fell on the road, while the lorry ran-over Anila, killing her on-the-spot while others of the family escaped with minor injuries. Passers-by rushed them to a nearby hospital, where Anila was declared as brought dead. Doctors informed the police that Srinivas and his children were out of danger.

The lorry driver fled the spot and is abandoning.

Both the cases have been registered in Mico Layout and Banaswadi traffic police station respectively.
