Tumkur University in all likelihood is not going to confer honorary doctorate degrees on prominent personalities in the convocation to be held on Wednesday (April 6).

Though only a few hours are left for the event, the office of the Vice-Chancellor of the university has not received the green signal from the Governor’s office in connection with the honorary doctorate degrees.

The university had recommended the names of B. Jayashri, artiste; Kadidaal Shamanna, farmer leader; and K.B. Siddaiah, poet.

Vice-Chancellor A.H. Rajasab told The Hindu , “We had submitted the list to the Governor’s office, but we have not received any letter giving approval.”

He said the convocation will be held tomorrow in which Governor V.R.Vala and Minister for Higher Education T.B. Jayachandra will participate but will not confer honorary degrees. Former Lokayukta Santhosh Hegde will deliver the convocation address.

The list was signed by 15 of the 16 syndicate members; one member had not signed.
