The ongoing strike by truck owners has not impacted the supply of essential commodities in the State, according to the Transport Department.
A meeting was held on Friday between Transport Commissioner Ramegowda and officials of the Karnataka Milk Federation, HOPCOMS, and the Agricultural Produce Market Committee to take stock of the situation.
“We have formed district-level control rooms, which are continuously monitoring the situation. If there is shortage in supply of essential commodities, we are ready to press KSRTC buses into service,” he said.
Mr. Ramegowda said around 25 to 30 per cent lorries operated on local routes on Friday. “Most of them operate in the night. Some factions are not supporting the strike, so we don’t foresee any emergencies,” he said.
He said that 30 per cent lorries operated on long routes during the day in Tumakuru on Friday, in Hassan it was 50 per cent, 35 p.c. in Mysuru, and 40 p.c. in Kolar.
