Toddler’s death: parents allege negligence

January 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:03 am IST - Bengaluru:

The parents of a two-and-half-year-old Benaka Sharma, who died of burns at Victoria Hospital on Monday, alleged that the death was owing to medical negligence by doctors. Denying the charges, Smitha Segu, doctor in charge of the Burns Ward, said the toddler had suffered second-degree burns (over 35 per cent) and had developed septicaemia. “We followed all the protocols and did everything to treat Benaka. But, as the burns were severe, the child developed acute infection and could not be saved,” she said.
