The Rajagopal Nagar police arrested two youths and detained a juvenile on the charge of waylaying people using toy guns and air pistols. They seized 115 grams of gold ornaments, 28 smart phones and an autorickshaw from them.

With their arrest, the police claim to have cracked 16 cases.

Police believe that the trio — Prashanth (20), Mahadevswamy (22) and a 16-year-old — were involved in chain snatching and other thefts in Rajgopalnagar, Mahalakshmi Layout, Nandini Layout, Peenya and Subramanyanagar in the past few months.

“We found that they had one toy pistol and an air pistol. They used to lay in wait for motorists and pedestrians at night. Brandishing the toys, they would demand their valuables. They would target employees returning home after the night shift and early morning walkers,” said a police officer.

According to the police, they were able to nab the accused based on a tip-off. “We learnt that they would leave their homes at night and remain indoors during the day. We gathered information about their activities and nabbed them,” said a police officer.
