He had performed poorly in exams after which he lost his bicycle and school bag

A 15-year-old boy, who cooked up a story about being kidnapped, sent the Jnana Bharathi police into a tizzy on Wednesday. The boy, who had not performed well in his mid-term exams, decided to run away from home, but soon changed his mind. On returning home, he made up the story to escape punishment from his father.

The boy was taken to the police station by his father. Initially, he told the police that he was kidnapped by two youths in a van after he was sprayed with some sedative so that he became unconscious. He said that the incident took place at around 8.15 a.m. in Nagarabhavi while he was going to school on his bicycle from his home in Papareddy Palya.

The boy went on to say that around 12.30 p.m., when the van slowed down in Yelahanka, he managed to jump off from the vehicle and escape from the kidnappers. He then managed to reach home with the help of some locals.

However, the police, who questioned him repeatedly, knew he was lying, which led to the teen confessing about having performing badly in his mid-term mathematics examination on Tuesday. Adding to his woes, his bicycle and school bag were stolen on Wednesday morning while he was heading to school.

Scared of being pulled up, he lied to gain some sympathy from his father, the police said. He was let off with a strict warning from the police.
