The technical glitches that marred the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) Under-Graduate Entrance Test (UGET), 2016 for engineering seat aspirants rattled many students, causing stress before the examination commenced.

Many students complained that their performance in the exam was adversely affected due to technical glitches. An engineering seat aspirant, who took the exam in Cambridge Institute of Technology, complained that students were unable to login for two hours. “For two hours, we were not able to access the question paper and there were errors in the login details. After two hours, when the software was set up, I was tired, hungry and was not able to concentrate on the test,” he said.

Another candidate from Patna, Jayesh Arun, said that he was extremely disappointed as there was a delay of more than one hour. “It made me feel really tired and sleepy. I came to the exam with a fresh mind and with the intention of finishing the exam on time,” he said. The situation repeated itself at several centres across the city. Meanwhile, at Vemana Institute of Technology, Kormangala, parents had to protest after the authorities said that students would not be able to write the exam due to technical glitches. Finally, after the police intervened, students were allowed to take the exam.

Asha Satish, a parent, said there was a delay of more than one-and-half hours due to errors in the server and the examination finally got over at 2.30 p.m. “Initially, the COMEDK authorities said that due to the error, they would be unable to allow students to the exam.”

A press release from COMEDK authorities stated that in five of the 78 centres in the city, there was a delay in login reported by a few students “The built-in mechanism permits that whenever there was a delayed login, the time gets extended automatically to the extent of delay,” the release stated.

The exam was conducted in 697 centres across 172 cities in the country. Around 78.6 per cent of the engineering candidates reported for the exam. As many as 54,300 out of 69,102 candidates appeared for the exam.
