A 25-year-old woman from Bengaluru, who hurt her leg while trekking in the Western Ghats and got stuck in the forest near Kukke Subrahmanya temple in Dakshina Kannda district, was safely brought back to the town by a group of taxi drivers.
She was part of a group of 23 trekkers from Bengaluru who left for Kumaraparvata from Kukke Subrahmanya on Monday. On Tuesday morning, she slipped and hurt her leg near Girigadde in Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary.
Members of the trekking group sought help of forest personnel at Girigadde, who, in turn, contacted Kusumadhara, president of Kukke Subrahmanya Taxi Owners’ Association. Kusumadhara reached Girigadde with a group of four taxi drivers and trekked to the spot where the woman was stuck.
They made her lie down on a makeshift stretcher. They carried her on their shoulders for about 7 kilometres to the primary health centre in Subrahmanya for treatment, sources said.
After treatment, she was taken by the trekking group back to Bengaluru in their vehicle.
A health department doctor said that the woman may have suffered a fracture on her leg.
