Standoff between producers and actors continues

June 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - BENGALURU:

The week-long stand off between producers and actors continues despite the best efforts of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) to break the imbroglio.

The 10-day long dharna by producers in support of their long pending demands entered the seventh day on Sunday. The meeting between producers and Kannada Film Artists’ Association (KFAA) to sort out their differences remained inconclusive.

Actors Shivarajkumar, B. Saroja Devi and others left the KFCC venue after waiting for a while for KFAA President M.H. Ambareesh to turn up.

Talks began only when Ambareesh appeared on the scene. KFCC had formed three committees: one headed by actor Jaggesh, another by producer Munirathna and the third by exhibitor K.V. Chandrashekar to sort out the issues raised by producers.

KFCC President Thomas D’Souza said that exhibitors (single screen theatre owners) have agreed to a revenue sharing system from the existing rental system. “This system is beneficial to producers, distributors and exhibitors. The condition of single screens will improve and the audience will get facilities equivalent to that of multiplexes, but at a lesser price,” he explained.

The committee headed by Munirathna met representatives of some TV channels and persuaded them to buy films. “Channel heads promised to consider their demand sympathetically,” Mr. D’Souza said.

The committee headed by Jaggesh met Mr. Ambareesh and discussed the issues raised by producers.
