Thousands of students were relieved when the learned that they had passed the SSLC supplementary examination, the results of which were announced on Friday. Many of the students who had failed in the SSLC examination held in March and April buckled down and revised the course to ensure that they had acquainted themselves well by the time the supplementary exams were held in June.
Some had missed the March-April boards on account of illness or an accident, and were thrilled with their scores. Afra Firdouse from Sri Sharada Vidyaniketana English High School, who topped the supplementary examination by bagging 584 marks, decided to ‘defeat her destiny with confidence’. She had fallen from the second floor of her terrace while studying for the board examination. Although she had written two papers, she was unable to sit for the others as she had to undergo three surgeries.
“I feel great to see these results. I am able to walk now and am looking forward to going to college soon,” she said.
Hemalatha R. of Sri Devala Maharshi English High School bagged 90%. She was unable to appear for the examinations in March-April owing to a bike accident a day before the last paper. She can’t wait to join her friends in college.
For Riyaz Ahmed, a mathematics teacher in a government school, the results were bitter-sweet. He was shocked when he learned that his son, Mohammad Tais R. Kotnal, a student of Excellent English Medium High School, Ittangihal, in Vijayapura, had failed in mathematics in the March-April examination. “But I decided not to question him. Instead, I encouraged him,” he said. He celebrated on learning that his son had scored 89% in mathematics.
