The two accused in the fatal stabbing of a police constable in Nelamanagala were remanded to 14 days in police custody by a judge on Thursday. Police had trouble escorting the accused as a large group of people protested outside the judge’s residence baying for instant justice.
As courts were closed, the police produced Harish Gowda and Madhu to a Judicial Magistrate First Class judge at his residence in Nelamanagala. However, the scene turned tense when nearly 150 people confronted the police, who were escorting the accused, and demanded that the duo be handed over to the people for a “public trial”.
Doddaballapur Sub Inspector S. Jagadish was stabbed when he chased the two, suspected of robbery, at Nelamanagala on October 16. Madhu and Harish Babu, primary accused in the stabbing, were nabbed at on Monday. The two were brought by flight to Bengaluru at around 11 p.m. on Wednesday and later taken to Nelamanagala where they were questioned.
