The NIA special court on Monday sentenced three accused in the 2010 Chinnaswamy stadium blast case — Gowhar Aziz Khomani, Kamaal Hasan and Mohammad Kafeel Akhtar — to seven years of imprisonment. Out of the seven years, the accused have to undergo one year of rigorous imprisonment.
A penalty of ₹7.5 lakh was imposed on two of them, and ₹10 lakh on the third convict.
The blasts that left 15 people, including five security personnel, injured occurred on April 17, 2010, during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match.
Of the 14 accused, three — Gowhar Aziz Khomani, Kamaal Hasan and Mohammad Kafeel Akhtar — pleaded guilty in a special court.
The prosecution said they had been found guilty on three counts: under Section 18 (conspiracy), 19 (harbouring) and 20 (being part of a terror organisation) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
The court also charged Akhtar under Section 13(1) (advocates, abets, advises or incites the commission of any unlawful activity) and slapped a fine of ₹10 lakh.
The trial of the other accused, including prime accused Yaseen Bhatkal, would continue. The next hearing has been posted for July 19.
