Senior cop demoted

October 14, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - Bengaluru:

A Deputy Superintendent of Police posted with the CID was demoted on Tuesday owing to his role in the accident in 2013 when an Audi car rammed into an auto resulting in the death of the passenger near Mayo Hall.

Footage of the accident, which occurred on June 1, 2013, had shocked the entire city.

But B.G. Rathnakar, who was then inspector of Ashoknagar Traffic Police Station, did not visit the spot and failed to arrest the driver of the car. An investigation revealed dereliction of duty. Mr. Rathnakar has been demoted to Inspector rank.

Later, police had arrested a student, Rajesh Reddy, for the crime.
