SBI to give Rs. 1 cr. to build toilets in govt. schools

State Bank of India, Bengaluru Circle, will provide Rs. 1 crore towards building toilets in about 25 government schools by March, Chief General Manager Rajni Mishra said on Tuesday.

Schools in backward Kolar and Chickballapur have been identified for the project with the help of the Commissionerate of Public Instruction.

Ms. Mishra said the country’s lead bank uses one per cent of its profit for socially-useful activities.

During 2013-14, it spent Rs. 148 crore on corporate social responsibility programmes such as total literacy mission.

In another activity, SBI and Rotary Club Bengaluru are organising a corporate golf tournament on January 30 to raise funds to upgrade school infrastructure and other projects.

Among the beneficiaries will be the 500-student Rotary Bangalore Vidyalaya started and run by RCB for the last 40 years at Nagadevanahalli in the outskirts of Bengaluru, according to Ramkumarr Seshu, president of Rotary Club Bengaluru.
