Chaos reigned at the office of the Rajya Vokkaligara Sangha office here on Monday afternoon when a group of people barged into the chamber of the Sangha’s treasurer.

C. Manjunath, the treasurer, alleged that he was manhandled by the crowd that accompanied Venkatesh B.L., parent of one of the three students who was eligible to receive compensation from the institute.

The Karnataka High Court had recently directed the Rajya Vokkaligara Sangha and its Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) to pay Rs. 1 crore each as compensation to three MBBS seat aspirants for making them lose one academic year by admitting them in excess of the total intake.

Speaking to The Hindu , Mr. Venkatesh said he was frustrated with the repeated visits to the institute seeking the compensation money. “I asked them several times for the money as I had to admit my daughter to another college, also have to be done under the management quota. But they kept dragging the issue, so I decided to take the help of some organisations,” he said.

He also said he tried asking the college to admit his daughter at least this year. “Her classmates are all in the second year now. Even to this request, I got the same old answer,” he said.

Things turned ugly when Mr. Venkatesh, accompanied by members of two activist groups, met Mr. Manjunath on Monday. “He started using foul language with us,” Mr. Venkatesh alleged, adding that Appaji Gowda, president, Rajya Vokkaligara Sangha, intervened and promised to give the compensation by Wednesday. Mr. Manjunath later filed a police complaint accusing Mr. Venkatesh of orchestrating the “attack” on him and participating in it. However, Central police said no FIR had been registered yet.
