A kabaddi coach at a Sports Authority of India (SAI) facility in Bengaluru — who was accused of molesting a 13-year-old player and subsequently suspended pending inquiry — was found dead on Monday. He had hanged himself at a private lodge in Harihara, Davanagere, said the police.
The coach, Rudrappa V. Hosamani, had allegedly molested the girl in the dressing room near the kabaddi ground of the sports complex. She ran out in tears, and called her mother. Her family issued a complaint to the SAI, and he was suspended. A complaint was lodged against Hosamani under the POCSO Act, 2012, at Jnanabharathi police station.
Ravi D. Chennannavar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), said that Hosamani is learnt to have checked into a lodge in Harihara town on Sunday morning. The hotel staff, however, grew suspicious on Monday afternoon as he had not come out of his room. He hadn’t even opened the door ever since he checked in.
When their repeated calls to him went unheeded, the lodge authorities called the police, who broke open the door and found him hanging. Sources said that he might have ended his life early on Sunday.
According to Mr. Chennannavar, Hosamani left behind a suicide note in which he apologised to his family, his wife and son, the SAI, and all his students.
