Reduction in PoP idols

Indicating improved awareness among citizens, the number of eco-friendly Ganesh and Gowri idols outweigh those made of Plaster of Paris (PoP).

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has been keeping a close watch on the number and kind of idols being immersed in the facilities established in lakes and mobile tankers.

According to information provided the BBMP, on September 16, of the 53,872 idols immersed, 2,398 were PoP. The highest number of idols were immersed in East zone (20,067), followed by South (14,622) and West (12,103) zones. A total of 135 tonnes of waste in the form of garlands and puja materials was collected.

Of the 1.69 lakh idols immersed on September 13, 7,254 were PoP. The BBMP stated that of the 1.75 lakh idols immersed on September 14, 1,924 were PoP. On September 15, of the 1.19 lakh idols immersed, as many as 5,345 were PoP.
