Tension prevailed at the toll booth operated by NICE at Kanakapura Road junction on Friday after some members of a pro-Kannada organisation ransacked the booth in protest against Bidar South MLA Ashok Kheny’s derogatory remarks against farmers and the increasing incidents of suicides. Protesters raised slogans against Mr. Kheny and staged a protest. Traffic on NICE road was disrupted for over an hour.

Protests by various organisations at the toll gate of Hubballi-Dharwad Bypass Road also turned violent. They blocked the bypass road at the toll gate for some time and demanded an apology from Mr. Kheny. They also burnt an effigy and said the statement was unbecoming of an elected representative.
