Prolific Tweeple are busy offline too

March 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Bengaluru:

Some people think those who are active on social media have nothing better to keep them busy in real life. But not all such people are jobless. Some hyperactive Tweeple among the Twitterati, who have a large number of followers, are just as vibrant in real life too.

For instance, the Twitter handle “@Shockraborty” has 31,000 “Followers”. The man behind the handle — Utsav Chakraborty — does much more than just tweet. In real life, he is a copywriter in a start-up called Paperboat, which sells traditional Indian juices in paper bottles. That is not the only cap he sports. For the last four years, he has also been a stand-up comedian. He says, “My mission, as a stand-up comedian, is to eradicate the status quo shown in Bollywood movies.”

Another example is @jhunjhunwala who has 80,000 followers. The man behind the “parody account” — Aditya Magal — is a writer and business analyst. His handle is named after a businessman about whom he wrote a spoof in a book titled How to become a billionaire without selling nothing . What got him that many followers? He says, “Though I am not a celebrity, I got the followers because I enjoy talking to them.” The book gave him a platform to take off from for what he had always wanted to do, which was to become a writer.
