Polls: differences in JD(S) over alliance with Congress

Major differences have cropped up within the Opposition Janata Dal (Secular) over forging an alliance with the Congress in the forthcoming elections to the zilla panchayat and Legislative Council. The party’s State president H.D. Kumaraswamy has reportedly threatened to quit the post if his party leaders go ahead with the pact. Highly placed sources in the JD(S) said that Mr. Kumaraswamy has threatened to distance himself from not just poll campaigns, but also major political activities of the party if its leaders insisted on joining hands with the Congress.
