As many as 74.59 lakh children below the age of five across Karnataka, including 6.7 lakh in Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike limits, are expected to be immunised on Sunday as part of the nationwide Pulse Polio campaign.
Rapid response teams
The Directorate of Health and Family Welfare is geared up for the smooth conduct of the first round of immunisation. Rapid response teams have been set up across the State to deal with adverse events following immunisation, if any.
Each health centre, including primary health centres, taluk and district hospitals, maternity homes and referral centres will have a rapid response team comprising paediatricians, epidemiologists and other doctors. The team will be headed by a medical officer, who will be available round the clock at the health centre.
As many as 31,410 vaccination booths manned by 98,790 vaccinators have been set up. Special mobile teams will reach inaccessible areas and transit teams will be in bus-stands and railway stations to cover floating population. A total of 1,04,002 vaccinators and 6,722 supervisors will be involved in the exercise, a senior official said.
Door-to-door campaign
The booth round will be followed by a door-to-door campaign over the next three days. The second immunisation round will be held on April 1, he added.
