Officials of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) shot and injured 24-year-old history-sheeter Raja Durai when he attacked a policeman in a bid to escape at Soladevanahalli on Saturday. This is the fourth such incident over a fortnight where the police have opened fire after they were attacked by history-sheeters.

According to the police, the accused, a resident of Old Byappanahalli, has eight criminal cases, including attempt to murder, assault, and extortion, registered against him at five police stations in east Bengaluru and in Whitefield division.

CCB sleuths were pursuing him as they had information that he along with a few others had planned to attack his rival gang. On Saturday morning, the team received information that Durai had been spotted at Soladevanahalli and a police party left to apprehend him.

When they confronted Durai, he attacked CCB constable Narasimhamurthy with his dagger in a bid to escape. Inspector Prakash Rathod warned Durai to drop his weapon and surrender. He then fired a round in the air and later shot Durai in his right leg and neutralised him. Mr. Narasimhamurthy sustained injuries on his forearm.
