A day after 13-year-old Yeshwanth drowned in a six-foot deep pit in Government Arts College ground near KR Circle, nothing had changed on Thursday.
There are around 10 such pits in the ground. They were dug up as part of the construction of a building on the site. All are filled with rain water. There is neither a warning sign nor any safety measures, like a lid or a fence.
On Wednesday afternoon, Yeshwanth was playing cricket with three of his friends. He fell in a pit when he went to fetch a ball and drowned. When The Hindu visited the spot on Thursday, a group of boys were playing cricket. Twice, the ball fell into one of the pits. The boys jumped into the pit and retrieved the ball.
Meanwhile, Ulsoor Gate police are yet to identify the contractor who dug up the pits or record the statement of the college principal.
