The Consulate General of Israel to south India held a panel discussion on the "role of leadership in the pursuit for peace", a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who had advocated the Israeli-Palestine peace process and who was assassinated in 1995.
“Our people, here in India and back home in Israel, are enjoying the freedom that our democracies provide us, but bear also the responsibility to follow the legacy of these two leaders who unite us: Gandhi and Rabin,” said Consul General Dana Kursh who moderated the discussion between scholars Gadi Ariav and Vijay Padaki on the legacy of the two leaders, and what both countries could learn from their actions and teachings.
The programme saw the performance of a play, "The Prophet and The Poet", based on the letters and articles between Gandhi and writer Rabindranath Tagore, by Bangalore Little Theatre.
