Over 70 pubs, rooftop restaurants get final notice

Over 70 pubs and rooftop restaurants that have not addressed faults in fire prevention and control measures have been given one week to rectify the same or face closure.

Following the fire at Kamala Mills in Mumbai in December, which had resulted in the death of 14 people, the Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services (KSFES) had inspected 83 pubs and rooftop restaurants to assess their vulnerability to similar fires.

In the first week of January, these pubs were given notices, following which, on February 2, the Fire Department issued a final notice. “More than 70 pubs will now have a week to rectify issues pointed by our officials. If they don’t, we will write to the BBMP to cancel their Occupation Certificate and to civic agencies to stop water and electricity supply,” said Soumendu Mukherjee, Inspector General of Police, KSFES.
