The police will soon nominate a senior officer as a nodal officer to monitor the process of keeping a vigil on the illegal activity of defacing the city by putting up posters, banners, and hoardings, and also indiscriminate dumping of garbage.
A submission in this regard was made before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice S. Sujatha during the hearing of PIL petitions against illegal hoardings, banners, flexes, through which the court is monitoring the activities of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and other authorities in checking the menace of illegal hoardings.
The bench, while reiterating that the police will have to keep a constant watch through surveillance cameras and other means on such illegal activities and initiate action as per the law, wanted to know who is the officer concerned in charge of monitoring the actions taken by the police to check these illegal activities.
As no such arrangement exists, Advocate-General Udaya Holla told the bench that a nodal police officer would be nominated for monitoring the actions of the jurisdictional police.
The bench said that the nodal officer should also monitor actions initiated by the police against dumping of garbage.
Ballari Road widening
The bench also asked the A-G to find out the status of the process initiated for widening of Ballari Road between BDA junction and Mehkri underpass as there was a direction from the High Court in 2016 for widening this stretch by acquiring land of Bangalore Palace in terms of the apex court’s 2014 order.
