Is inadequate bus service during nights, especially on ring roads, one of the reasons for the rise in muggings in the city?
While many victims claim that they were forced to board a passing cab because due to lack of service by Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation, the transport corporation says it operates night services wherever necessary.
BMTC Managing Director K.R. Srinivasa told The Hindu that the corporation is running buses on important routes.
To a question why not on ring roads, Mr. Srinivasa said that there had not been much demand and patronage for night services on them.
“It is not feasible to run a bus for one or two people at night-time,” Mr. Srinivasa said.
“It is not that the BMTC eyes only commercially viable routes for operation. There should be some minimum load to operate the night services,” Mr. Srinivasa said.
However, it was open to suggestions on the matter and would consider it if there was demand.
