A day after DIG (Prisons) D. Roopa of Karnataka submitted a report to the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG-IGP) R.K. Dutta alleging large-scale irregularities in the Parappana Agrahara Central prison in Bengaluru, Director General (Prisons) H.N. Satyanarayana Rao denied the report, saying the DIG’s action was outside of her jurisdiction.

In the report, Ms. Roopa had accused her senior colleagues of accepting a ₹2 crore bribe from AIADMK interim general secretary V.K. Sasikala in return for preferential treatment.

Mr. Rao categorically denied the allegation, saying no facilities were given to any inmates of the prison. He, however, said fake stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Kareem Telgi was provided with an attendant but pointed out that it was based on a court direction.

The allegations made by the DIG (Prisons) were baseless. Even Tamil Nadu ministers have not been allowed to meet Sasikala. Ms. Roopa's report was sent to him after office hours and leaked to the media, Mr. Rao said.

On the allegation of drug supply inside the prison, he said there were reports of usage of ganja and mobile phones inside the prisons, but measures are being taken to prevent it.

Ms. Roopa has said the proof of her allegations were available at the prison and authorities concerned can probe and find the truth.

Chief Minister to order probe

Chief Minsiter Siddaramaiah on Thursday said he would order a probe into the allegations made by Ms. Roopa.

He was talking to journalists before laying the foundation stone for the Nandawadagi Lift Irrigation project in Tondihal village.
