It is a widely known fact that laughter is beneficial to health. Some Bangaloreans know this only too well, which is why they have been actively participating in the activities of laughter clubs for the past couple of years.

On Sunday, the Sri Jagadguru Renukacharya College was the venue for a roar of laughter as the eighth annual convention of laughter clubs was organised to mark the success of all the laughter clubs of Bangalore. The programme was inaugurated by Madhuri Kataria, secretary of International Laughter Clubs, in the presence of many social workers and more than 350 members.

“We are all thrilled to be a part of the laughter club and it has helped us a lot, not just health-wise, but it has also given us a feeling of being a part of the whole,” said P. Krishnamurthy, a member of the Gandhinagar Laughter Club.

The event included talks by Ms. Kataria and Dinesh Gundurao, MLA from Gandhinagar.

“Laughter is an important part of life. Among all the difficulties we face, it makes our stress-driven lives easy and helps us lead a healthy life. The laughter clubs help us do so through laughter therapy and physical exercises, which includes yoga and pranayama,” said Mr. Gundurao.

The members also rejoiced the fact that laughter clubs are being recognised lately and have also become a part of education. “The CBSE syllabus has an entire chapter about laughter clubs and the importance of laughter to human health. This is a really good sign that knowledge about laughter clubs is being spread to children as well,” Ms. Kataria added.

In a series of programmes that had been lined up, there was an obvious dash of humour with comedian Indu Shree performing on stage.
