Murder suspect dies in police custody

A 55-year-old murder suspect died while being escorted to the scene of the crime for a spot inspection, in Ramamurthy Nagar on Monday morning.

The deceased, Krishna Murthy, was a lift operator. He was arrested on the charge of killing his 50-year-old wife Makaka Devi on November 20.

According to the police, Makaka Devi was found in her home with her throat slit. Her gold chain was missing. Initially, Ramamurthy Nagar police registered a case of murder for gain. During the course of the investigation, the police found that the deceased had filed a complaint against her husband and his family over a domestic row.

The police suspected Krishna Murthy of killing her and made it look like murder for gain. They picked him up for questioning. After a detailed probe, he claimed to have committed the crime and hidden the murder weapon in an isolated place at Kalkere, police said.

While police were escorting him to the spot, he developed chest pain and fainted. He was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared him as brought dead.

The Ramamurthy Nagar have taken up a case of custodial death.
