Women in Muduvadi in Kolar taluk staged a protest in front of Excise Office on Tuesday demanding closure of a bar and restaurant, which was recently opened in the village.

Led by Sri Nallagangamma Mahila Swasahaya Sangha (SHG), the women expressed ire over the opening of the bar in their area. According to them, the bar would encourage men folk to drink and would create disturbances. The bar is located near a high school and children are scared to walk past, they said.

The grama panchayat and other authorities have turned deaf ears to the pleas to shut the bar, the women said, urging Deputy Commissioner of Excise to act on their demand.

The Excise DC Sunitha assured that suitable steps will be taken in the matter.
