Member of Parliament for Bengaluru Central P.C. Mohan urged Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of State Suresh Angadi, whom he met in New Delhi, to ensure ‘speedy implementation’ of the long-pending suburban rail project. In a press release, Mr. Mohan said that the two ministers assured him of their cooperation and approval.

In a letter to the Union Railway Minister, Mr. Mohan raised several points including the fact that the suburban railway “has been caught in the political and bureaucratic hassle of approvals and sanctions.” He also pointed out that the revised DPR is yet to be approved.

Halt at Devanahalli

Meanwhile, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, who held discussions with the railway authorities on Thursday, suggested stoppages for trains at Devanahalli Halt near Kempegowda International Airport. DRM Ashok Kumar Verma has assured that two trains from KSR Bengaluru (Majestic) heading towards Devanahalli or beyond would be given a stop at Devanahalli Halt.

A release quoted Mr. Surya as saying, “It takes more than two hours for anyone in the city to reach the airport due to the saturated traffic situation in Bengaluru. The stoppage of trains at Devanahalli Halt, which is about a 10-minute drive from the airport, will reduce travel time drastically. This will benefit at least half a million people of Bengaluru.”
