Minor gang-raped, five held

Five men were arrested on charge of raping a 17-year-old girl, who had gone to Kanakapura in search of a job, at Maralwadi on Friday.

The arrested are Devraju, Siddaraju, Manjunatha, Muthuraju and Prashanth, all residents of Maralwadi. .

According to police, the minor girl, who was working in a shop in Mysuru, lost her job. An acquaintance, promising her a decent job, asked her to go to Kanakapura and meet a particular person. So, the victim on May 8 went to Kanakapura where she met Siddaraju, an autorickshaw driver, who promised her a job. He took her to a dry water canal near Maralwadi where he and his friends allegedly raped her. Then they fled from the spot leaving the girl in an unconscious state. “On May 9, passersby saw the minor girl crying near Kanakapura bus-stop. On being questioned, she narrated the ordeal following which the police were alerted,” police sources said.
