Mexican arrested for molesting Israeli woman

The Ashok Nagar police have arrested a Mexican national who allegedly molested a woman from Israel at the Chabad Jewish center on Richmond Road, assaulted a head constable with a knife, and threatened to kill the woman when he came to her rescue on Sunday evening.

The accused, Julian Heriberto, had to be pinned down by police personnel who arrived at the scene after injured head constable Sampath Kumar alerted the control room for back-up. Julian, who has been charged with sexual assault, outraging the modesty of a woman and assaulting a government servant, was remanded into judicial custody on Monday.

According to the police, he had a joined the centre as a cook six months ago. The rabbi who manages the centre was travelling on official work when the incident took place, but his wife Noa Pivkin filed a complaint with the police.

Julian allegedly entered the prayer hall on Sunday armed with a knife and grabbed a woman who had come to pray. Hearing her shout for help, Mr. Kumar, head constable Central Armed Reserve, who was deputed on security duty at the entrance of the centre, ran to her aid.

Cornered, Julian attacked Mr. Kumar and threatened to kill both him and the woman. The constable realised that the situation could get out of hand any time and immediately alerted the control room. Additional police force arrived at the spot soon after, and were able to overpower Julian.

“Shocked by the incident, the victim refused to file a complaint. However, Ms. Pivkin informed the rabbi about the developments and filed a complaint,” said the police.

Julian allegedly claimed that he was mentally unstable and would often gets attacks that resulted in violent behaviour. "However, the medical examination proved that he is fit," said the police
