Man held with a pair of elephant tusks

The Basavanagudi police arrested a person from Tamil Nadu and recovered two elephant tusks weighing 15 kg from him.

The accused, identified as Shankar, was smuggling the tusks on a motorcycle near Krishna Rao Park.

The beat police grew suspicious and intercepted him. They found that the motorcycle had fake registration.

On detailed questioning, it was revealed that Shankar got the tusks from his associates in Dharmapuri in Tamil Nadu and had come to the city to sell them.

The police suspect he is part of an inter-State poachers’ racket.
