A man, who had allegedly forged a recommendation letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to get a job as a typist in the Karnataka High Court, was arrested on Friday.

The accused, Sanjay Kumar, 30, is from Belagavi. He is a BSc. graduate and had done a typist course.

Recently, High Court registrar Rajeshwari had received a letter by post: a recommendation letter from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the PM's letterhead recommending Sanjay Kumar for a typist's job in the High Court. She became suspicious and handed over the letter to the vigilance department in the High Court.

Correspondence with the PMO revealed the letter to be fake. A complaint was lodged with Vidhana Soudha police, who tracked down Sanjay Kumar to Belagavi and arrested him.

Sanjay Kumar told the police that he was desperate to land a government job. He downloaded a few official letters of PM Modi on the official letterhead and recreated a letter. He forged the PM’s signature by imitating the ones in the official letters.
