Make me Home Minister, I will bring order: Ramesh Kumar

November 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - BENGALURU:

Congress member K.R. Ramesh Kumar on Wednesday claimed in the Assembly that he would bring the law and order situation under control in the State within a month if he was made Home Minister. “I will not show my face to the House if I am not able to do this,” he said. The episode unfolded following revelation by Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar that Om Prakash, Director-General and Inspector-General of Police, had written a letter to the ADGP in July taking exception to the inquiry officer in the case related to rape of a girl in Hassan indulging in dereliction of duty by not collecting the dress worn by the accused during the crime. Mr. Shettar said the government was yet to act against the erring police official.

Mr. Kumar said the police and the Home departments should try to curb crimes against women by targeting the perpetrators by foisting false cases against them. Former Home Minister K.J. George told the House that such a practice was not allowed. But Mr. Kumar said he would demonstrate that it was possible if he was given the Home portfolio.

In a lighter vein, Mr. George said, “I will recommend to the Chief Minister and party high command to appoint Ramesh Kumar as Home Minister”.
