‘Tollbooth en route to airport is meaningless'

November 12, 2010 03:11 pm | Updated 03:11 pm IST - BANGALORE:

The upcoming tollbooth at Sadahalli en route the Bengaluru International Airport at Devanahalli is “meaningless”, according to Transport Commissioner Bhaskar Rao.

Speaking after an awareness programme for fleet operators, Mr. Rao disparaged the move, saying it would not serve any purpose.

M.R. Shanmugappa, president of the All India Motor Transport Congress, was also critical, saying the problem was not with paying the toll, but paying it for too many years.

‘Stop collection'

“Once the capital amount spent on the construction of the road is recovered through toll collection, the National Highways Authority of India should stop collection,” he suggested.

Mr. Shanmugappa also added that existing toll booths were not helping drivers who pay the toll as there were not even basic facilities such as restrooms provided.
