Lokayukta raids on eight government officials

The Lokayukta police raided the houses and other properties of eight government officials across six districts in the State early on Thursday and claimed to have detected disproportionate assets worth Rs. 9.5 crore.

Those raided include A.N. Thyagaraja, Chief Engineer, PWD (Communications and Buildings); Mallikarjuna R., Assistant Engineer, Town Development Authority, Bagalkot; Nagaiah Hiremath, Manager, Karnataka State Cooperative Marketing Federation, Bengaluru; Siddharth Bhupal Shingadi, village accountant, Belagavi; Krishna Mahadevappa Karmadi, Accounts Superintendent, PWD, Belagavi; Balakrishna M., Range Forest Officer, Madikeri; K.N. Anne Gowda, Assistant Director, Kannada and Culture Department; and G. Jagadeesh, Assistant Sub-Inspector, Channapatna East.

18 premises

Prem Shankar Meena, Additional Director-General of Police (Lokayukta), said the raids were conducted on 18 premises in Bengaluru Urban, Bagalkot, Belagavi, Ramanagaram, Dakshina Kannada and Uttara Kannada districts.

The raids were conducted after cases were registered against the officials under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
