One labourer died, and another sustained serious injuries when a platform erected for the construction of a three-storey building at the Border Security Force (BSF) campus in Yelahanka collapsed on Sunday night.

Jana Gemini, 19, and Shashikumar, 30, labourers for a private contractor, were standing on the platform on the third floor of the building, said the Yelahanka police. While they were waterproofing the building, the platform gave way, and the duo fell to the ground around 7 p.m. Jana Gemini died on the spot while Shashikumar, who fell on top of him, sustained injuries.

Shashikumar is recovering in a private hospital and is out of danger, said the police.

Jana Gemini is from Tamil Nadu and Shashikumar is from Srirampuram in Bengaluru.

The police have filed a case under Sections 304A (culpable homicide), 338 and 337 (endangering lives) of Indian Penal Code. Two managing directors of the private company have been booked.

“The company’s head office is in Hyderabad. We have sent them notices to come to the police station here for questioning. The workers did no have safety gear. The platform was almost make-shift and unsafe,” said a senior police official.
