Journalists demand legal action

October 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - BENGALURU:

In a memorandum submitted to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, journalists have demanded legal action against senior BJP leader K.S. Eshwarappa for his insensitive remarks on rape.

In the memorandum, they demanded action for indecency and for offending the dignity of women under the relevant IPC sections. Mr. Siddaramaiah said the statement of the senior BJP leader was “irresponsible” and he would consider what action could be taken after legal consultation.

Journalists said in the memorandum: “We find the comment extremely offensive and humiliating. Mr. Eshwarappa is defending himself stating that he was ‘only giving an example’, but it offends and belittles both the reporter and the woman who asked him the question.”

Meanwhile, the Press Club of Bangalore and Bangalore Reporters’ Guild expressed shock over the incident and demanded an apology.
