The elated director Raam Reddy

Raam Reddy, grandson of the first Chief Minister of Karnataka, K.C. Reddy, was elated on learning that his film won the Best Regional Film award.

Excerpts from an interview with the debut director

Were you expecting the award?

I learnt about the award on returning from New York, where Thithi was a part of the prestigious line-up at the 45th edition of New Directors’ Films at Lincoln Centre. I was really surprised when I learnt about the award. To be honest, I’m elated.

Do you expect more awards for the film?

The film can travel for festivals for another six months, and can compete in some yet to be held.

Where do you place your film when commercial films such as ‘Bahubali’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Piku’ got awards?

I consider Thithi as a commercial film, not an art film. Critics and the audience who watched the film reiterated my stand through their response.

When will the film be released?

We wanted to release it in the summer; the trailer will be released in the next two weeks.

Of late, muting of dialogues has become controversial. Did this affect quality and content of the film in any way?

No. I am quite comfortable with the cuts of dialogues suggested by the Central Board of Film Certification. The cuts did not affect the soul of the film in any way.
